How to Break the Survival Cycle for Good

This might be the most important post you read this year…

In today's business world, many face the grim reality of the survival cycle. You're either thriving or fighting to stay alive; unless you're already dead. If you want your business to thrive, you have to know how to break free from the survival cycle, for good.

To do this you need to understand how you got yourself into the survival cycle to begin with, and why you can't break free.

You might think there is no way out or that it's too hard.

Well, it's not.

And the only thing keeping you here is you.

So what are you waiting for? It's time to take action and start thriving!

The survival cycle is real

The survival cycle is the most vicious cycle you can find yourself in as a business owner - it's time-consuming, it wastes your money, and it’s overwhelming.

For most owners, once they are in it, they never come out.

Every month it's harder and harder to break even.

Your team have to work harder to get the same results.

Nothing you do has a lasting positive impact.

Don't fool yourself. It's possible to make money by accident. But dragging the team across the finish line every month isn't a sustainable solution.

The important thing here is to stop blaming others and accept that you have to take action to break free.

How did you get here?

Long story short, you got here by trying to save time, energy and money. Only, it didn't work.

You tried to save time by not explaining your expectations to your team.

You assumed they knew what you wanted.

But they didn't, and what they delivered wasn't what you or your client needed.

Then you saved yourself more time by not giving feedback on what was wrong.

You tried to save time by just doing it yourself.

Now you are wasting time and money on re-work and duplication across the team.

Shortcuts, quick wins, and short-term gains.

These all deliver re-work, duplication, and long-term pain.

Every time.

Without fail.

Why are you stuck here?

No matter how hard you try, nothing seems to have a lasting positive impact.

Even though you have spent a fortune on consultants and coaches, you have employed high-cost talent, nothing seems to be working.

If anything, it's getting worse.

Why?

It's not that you aren't trying or doing new things.

It's that you are doing these new things the same way.

You are still trying to get quick wins.

You are still taking shortcuts.

You are still trying to save time and money.

And you are still getting the same results.

Re-work and duplication.

"You can't solve your problems using the same thinking you used to make them." -- Albert Einstein

So what is the solution?

The solution is that you need to stop looking for quick wins and start focusing on long-term gains.

Even if this means short-term pain.

Focus on the fundamentals - process, communication, goal setting, time management, feedback — things that have a lasting impact and will help your business thrive in the long run.

But I don't have time...

There is a reason you don't have time right now -- you are constantly involved in re-work.

But there are other areas where you are wasting time.

Meetings that you don't need to be involved in.

Actively duplicating and taking on tasks that you should leave to others.

How many hours are you wasting throughout the day?

But I don't have the money to do what I need to do...

The first step in saving money is not to spend it on things you don't need.

Just like your time, the question is: where are you currently spending it that you shouldn't be?

Things like re-work.

Jobs that you should be spending ten hours on, you are now spending three or four times that.

Or duplication -- in this case, it might be spending money on tools that do the same thing.

Like duplicate systems and tools — CRMs, ERPs, Microsoft, Google, Zoom, DropBox etc…

Or spending money on things you don’t even use.

How do I get started?

There are two ways you can go from here.

There are a lot of articles on time management, running effective meetings, and just about every topic you can think of all for free on platforms like LinkedIn and other social media.

You can absolutely get started on your own. Look at where you are wasting your time and money, address, review etc.
